The LAJC sponsors a variety of cultural and social action activities for its members.
On an (almost) yearly basis, the LAJC sponsors a retreat where we spend the weekend getting to know each other better, listening to interesting speakers and doing activities together.
We have also invited speakers, watch movies with a Jewish theme, and have a yearly adult Hanukah party.
The LAJC has a long standing tradition of supporting charitable activities.
The Los Alamos Jewish Center sponsors a Chevra Kadisha which is responsible for funeral and burial needs of Jews in our area.
Members coordinate various initiatives such as food drives on Yom Kippur and Passover for local food banks, Christmas Eve treat distribution to police, firemen and others required to work that evening, American Cancer Society Relay for Life, and the Crop Walk to eliminate world hunger.
For many years, we have participated in the yearly cleanup of the Montefiore Cemetery in Las Vegas, NM, the oldest Jewish cemetery in New Mexico.
We promote mutual understanding among the different religious traditions in our area by participating in interfaith activities such as the yearly Thanksgiving service with our neighbor United Church, representation in the Ministerial Alliance, and support for the Interfaith Recovery Network, which has assisted the survivors of the Cerro Grande Fire.
